2009 Year-End Data

  • December marked the sixth straight month of positive home sales news in the Chicago area. More than 5,700 homes sold locally in December 2009, a 33 percent increase above the number sold in December 2008.
  • Pending home sales are significantly above where they were last year. This tells us the market is improving.
  • It is an excellent time to buy a home. We expect to see a surge of sales earlier this spring than usual, as buyers take advantage of the federal homebuyers' tax credit that expires April 30.
  • It is also an outstanding time to sell a home. Sellers can find serious buyers who want to take advantage of the tax credit and historically low interest rates.
  • If you are buying or selling a home, working with a REALTOR® can help you navigate a market that is rich with opportunities but also exceedingly complex.
  • Visit ChicagoREALTOR.com to learn more about federal tax credits available to first-time homebuyers and buyers who currently have homes.
