  • Chicago continues to be a vibrant market for first-time homebuyers. Fifty-nine percent of people who bought homes in the Chicago area last year were first-time buyers, compared to just 47 percent nationwide.
  • Most any type of buyer can find attractive deals right now. Single people accounted for 42 percent of homebuyers in the Chicago area last year. The average home purchased was 1,200 square feet.
  • Foreclosures aren't dominating the Chicago market. Last year, just 6 percent of homes purchased in our area were in foreclosure. Nationally, that number was 10 percent.
  • Working with a REALTOR® is critical for buyers and sellers who want to make smart decisions in an exceptionally complex market. Eight-nine percent of sellers in the Chicago area were assisted by real estate agents last year, and 86 percent of buyers.
